QR-Dispensing: What Chemists Actually Need
RxBharat Editorial · 7 min read ·

A chemist does not need another app to learn — they need to scan, trust, dispense and move on. Here is the counter-side design that makes that real.
The pharmacy counter is the busiest meter of healthcare in India. A design that asks a chemist to type in a prescription number, cross-check a phone number, or wait on a slow screen will be bypassed within a week. QR dispensing has to be faster than reading a handwritten prescription — that is the bar.
Scan → verify → dispense
Every RxBharat prescription carries a QR encoding a cryptographically signed payload. The chemist scans it; the system verifies the signature against the sealed trust-ledger entry — proving the document is genuine, unmodified, and issued by a verified prescriber. No signature squinting, no "is this even real?"
The pickup PIN
Dispensing confirms against a 6-digit PIN the patient received — proof the right person collected the medicines. The dispense event writes back to the prescription, so the doctor’s record shows what was actually given, in what quantity, and when.
Inventory that keeps itself
Each dispense decrements batch-level stock automatically. Expiry alerts surface before a batch goes stale; low-stock alerts feed directly into repurchase orders to linked distributors. The chemist never runs a separate "stock update" chore — dispensing IS the stock update.
- Signature-verified prescriptions only — fake Rx cannot pass
- 6-digit pickup PIN confirms the right hand received the medicine
- Batch + expiry tracking with automatic alerts
- One-tap repurchase orders to distributors
- Every dispense visible to the prescriber’s record
And when the QR does not scan?
The printed copy still carries everything a pharmacist needs — patient, prescriber, registration number, drugs, schedule warnings. The QR is the fast path and the integrity proof, not a gate that breaks the counter.
Frequently asked
Does a chemist need an RxBharat subscription?+
A verified pharmacy account is required to dispense via QR — it is what proves the dispenser’s identity in the audit trail. The scan itself takes seconds.
Can a photo of a QR be reused?+
The signature proves authenticity, and the pickup PIN confirms possession by the intended patient. Dispense events are logged, so reuse is visible.
